ANAHEIM, CA — April 5, 2025

The Los Angeles Angels delivered a statement performance on Saturday night, riding a monster fifth inning to a decisive 10-4 win over the Cleveland Guardians at Angel Stadium. With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Angels’ offense erupted in dramatic fashion, leaving Cleveland scrambling to recover.

Mike Trout got the party started with a towering two-run blast to dead center, igniting the home crowd and giving the Halos a jolt of energy. It was Trout’s third homer of the season and a reminder that even in year 15, he’s still among baseball’s most feared bats.

“Once we got that inning rolling, it felt like we couldn’t be stopped,” Trout said postgame. “Everybody was locked in.”

The Guardians never regained their footing. Just a few batters later, Logan O’Hoppe stepped to the plate and launched a two-run shot of his own — his second home run in as many nights — extending the lead and pouring fuel on the Angels’ fire.

“The energy in the dugout was electric,” said O’Hoppe. “Once Mike set the tone, we all just fed off it.”

That inning saw the Angels bring 11 batters to the plate, tacking on seven total runs thanks to clutch hits from Taylor Ward, Brandon Drury, and Zach Neto, blowing the game wide open.

Rookie right-hander Jack Kochanowicz held his own on the mound in just his second big league start, going five innings and allowing three earned runs to notch his first career win.

“He kept us in the game and gave us a chance to take over,” manager Ron Washington said. “That fifth inning — that’s what this lineup is capable of.”

The Guardians briefly held a 2-0 lead in the third, but their pitching couldn’t withstand the Angels’ offensive onslaught. Starter Tanner Bibee was tagged for six earned runs in 4.1 innings.

With this win, the Angels evened the three-game series at one apiece. They’ll aim to clinch the series in tomorrow’s rubber match.

Final Score: Angels 10, Guardians 4

Winning Pitcher: Jack Kochanowicz (1-0)

Losing Pitcher: Tanner Bibee (0-1)
